Finding the Perfect Fit!
| The culture of your office is very important and finding the perfect person to fill a position may result in a mixture of personality, experience and motivation. Find that drive and motivation in a new hire that is willing to learn new things and grow in their new position by learning new ways of performing similar job functions. You can find their interests and excitement in an interview by asking them what motivated them (or not) in their past positions and what they found rewarding. | | | Many surveys have shown that a new employee is generally not just in it entirely for the paycheck, but seeks an environment where they will be praised and recognized for their good work and commitment. In addition, employees are often seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth with a promising company. Give them that opportunity by clearly outlining goals and expectations for the position you are offering, and encourage them in the interview to share with you how they might add to those expectations. Allowing them to participate in the interview by sharing ideas and thoughts will help you gage their enthusiasm in your position. Background Checks and Drug Screening!
If you feel that by only calling one reference you will get the confidence you need to hire the perfect fit into your organization, you may want to think twice. Today, more than ever it is a must to do the proper background screenings and follow up with reference checks on your potential employee. This should include a drug screening, a criminal back ground check as well as education and past job history verifications just to name a few. Another key point when checking backgrounds is ensuring that references are legitimate. Are you truly calling the past manager at the most recently held position’s organization? A simple step is to go to that company’s website and dial the main number to look for your reference. By doing so, this will ensure you not only reach the appropriate organization, but ensures that you are also speaking to the appropriate person or past supervisor. If in question, it is always best to ask for the human resources department. Training!
How are you training new staff? At PBS we firmly believe that training is key to a long and successful future for your new employee! What better way to acclimate and make certain your new team member feels welcomed and comfortable than by providing them the atmosphere and ample time to get familiar with your organization and its processes? By taking simple steps to ensure your new team member is starting off on the right track could just make or break their longevity with your organization. The results are costly both in time and dollars, so wouldn’t it make more sense to invest a little more up front? Give them a job description and set goals. Provide them with a policy and procedure manual on their daily tasks and let them follow a trainer who you feel excels in their same or similar position. By providing your new team member with the opportunity and tools to learn in advance could just distinguish your organization from many others. PBS Can Help!
